Dahua CEO Silence Signals Danger

Dahua partners and employees, after this, you have no more excuses about not seeing it coming.

Last week, a stock filing said that Dahua's CEO resigned for 'personal reasons' and an outside CEO was in, effective immediately. IPVM covered it last Friday, Dahua had no official statement then and has made no public statement since.

However, they do have a new press release out this week. The topic:

Yes, Dahua decided that an 'award winning' keyboard to be substantial enough for a press release but their CEO resigns and an outsider CEO comes in - nothing.

Let's recap the problems:

There must be a merger on the cards between Hik and Dahua, imagine...

I am not sure if you are joking or not, but I think a Hikvision / Dahua merger would be very unlikely.

One practical issue is Dahua's market capitalization, which is ~$7 billion USD. Hikvision is $30+ billion USD so it could 'afford' them but it would be a premium price I don't think Hikvision would want to pay (unless Dahua's stock price tanked), especially considering the massive overlap of the companies. One might argue that Hikvision could do massive layoffs at Dahua that cut redundant costs but my limited understanding of Chinese employment law and culture is that such moves are highly frowned upon.

Also, those 2 companies seem to hate each other, recall Dahua Attacks Hikvision.

If I was going for speculation, I'd through out Huawei buys Dahua. Huawei's revenue is ~17x Hikvision's and Dahua would be more complimentary. Plus Dahua just hired a CEO from Huawei. That said, still speculation.

Btw, Dahua is planning a public offering in Hong Kong, not sure if or when it will go through.

Of course, the blowback from a Huawei acquisition is being banned from sales to government projects even after the attempt to build "manufacturing" in the USA.
