Axis "Best Of The Best" 4K Camera Tested (Q1798-LE)

By: Rob Kilpatrick, Published on Nov 21, 2019

Axis has released their "best of the best" Q1798-LE bullet camera, touting "4K without compromise" with a large Micro 4/3" image sensor, custom made Canon zoom lens, Lightfinder 2.0, and using only "the same bandwidth and storage as regular 1080p cameras" in low light.

We bought and tested the Q1798-LE to examine these claims. Inside, we look at:

  • How does it compare in day and night (color/~2 lux and IR/~0.02 lux) to other Axis cameras?
  • How even is IR coverage? Are there hotspots or dark areas?
  • How do Zipstream H.265 and H.264 day and night bitrates compare?
  • How well does it integrate into Avigilon, Exacq, Genetec, Milestone, and NxWitness?
