Axis "Motion Adaptive Exposure" Tested

By Derek Ward, Published Apr 26, 2021, 09:25am EDT

Axis claims their Motion Adaptive Exposure provides "excellent image quality in high-motion scenes" by automatically adjusting for fast-moving objects, but how well does it work in the real world?

IPVM Image

We bought an Axis P3247-LVE to test Motion Adaptive Exposure, examining the following:

  • How effective is Motion Adaptive Exposure in low light scenes (2 lux, 1 lux, and below)?
  • How does subject speed impact performance (running vs. walking)?
  • How does MAE affect other camera settings?
  • Axis response to our testing
