Billion Dollar Scandinavian Security Firm Avarn Drops Hikvision Over Human Rights
Avarn Security, one of Scandinavia's largest security providers with ~16,000 employees and ~$1 billion in sales, has publicly dropped Hikvision over "risk that Hikvison will contribute to human rights violations under the UN Convention" due to its Xinjiang activities.
Avarn cited the Ethics Council of Norway's Oil Fund recommendation to divest from Hikvision last fall due to Hikvision's "ongoing" involvement in "serious" human rights abuses under UN conventions.
While Hikvision says it respects UN human rights principles and has promised a review of its Xinjiang operations by a former UN ambassador for almost two years, that review remains under wraps while Hikvision's Xinjiang activities expand.
Now, Hikvision's non-adherence to UN human rights standards is hitting its European bottom line, creating risk for users and sellers. In this post, IPVM examines this incident.
