ASIS 2016 Review

Published Sep 13, 2016 22:01 PM

ASIS is done. We were at the show and have coverage of the show floor, and highlights from manufacturers in this report that we will update throughout the show.

Axis 20MP Camera

The Axis 20 MP camera was drawing a lot of traffic in Axis' booth. Several integrators discussing the unit expressed interest in seeing it work with Exacq, Genetec, Milestone, etc.

Milestone Axes Go

Milestone's decision to drop Go and offer 8 free Essential licenses was one of the more noteworthy announcements on the first day.

"Hikvision is showing their thermal camera, which also features an optical camera as well in a dual-sensor/dual-lens setup:"

Any word on the pricing or specs?

No word on pricing yet. They are showing a 640x480 thermal only camera, and then a dual-sensor version with a thermal module and an optical module. From a conversation this morning pricing and availability should be more defined later this year.

The operator, an employee of the company, looked a bit unstable while walking around with the googles on, and in several cases had trouble clicking/interacting with popups in the demo. The purpose of the system, according to the company, is to make guards more effective, but it appeared more of a hindrance than a help.

This could definitely help guards avoid detection while sleeping or playing video games.

Funny that the spell checker didn't catch "googles".

Lots of empty spaces. Light traffic. Vendors complaining of high tire-kicker traffic ratio.

Now that we have a picture of Longse's president from the last show, I think there is an army of lawyers wanting to talk to him about his SPAM.

Longsee did not come to ASIS, outside of Hikvision and Dahua there were very few Chinese manufacturers with booths, much different than ISC West.

Oh, LTS had a 10x10 in the back staffed by the local Miami office.
