Are 'Hot' IP Cameras a Problem?

In our ongoing camera testing, many of the megapixel cameras get really hot, really fast. So hot, in fact, that it would be uncomfortable to hold the camera for more than a few seconds.

The question, though, is whether this is a real problem for long term performance and reliability or simply a nuisance.

We think it's an important question but one that is hard to test accurately with a small number of cameras over a short time period. We do not recall analog cameras ever getting this hot and the cameras that seem to be getting hottest are the small form factor megapixel cameras.
