Anixter Strong Bump in Q4 2010

By: John Honovich, Published on Feb 10, 2011

In Anixter's investors call [link no longer available], the company disclosed that it's Q4 2010 security sales increased sharply, providing further evidence of an overall rebounding security market. Q4 2010 growth rate nearly doubled over the year's growth rate. While Anixter's year over year security sales increased 10% between 2010 and 2009, Q4 2010 security sales were up 19% over Q4 2009.

In the Q&A section of the call, Anixter specifically cited success in surveillance: "we've seen good project activity in security projects, primarily video surveillance."

As Anixter re-sells a broad range of video surveillance projects, their growth rate is a good bellweather of industry performance.

Q4 2010 looks to be strong overall and the best quarter for the industry in a few years. In addition to Anixter's accelerating growth, companies as diverse as Axis and Vicon both had their best quarters in sometime as well in Q4 2010.
