Hikvision Chairman Warns Of AI New Entrants Victimizing Customers

By: Charles Rollet, Published on Mar 12, 2019

Hikvision chairman Chen Zongnian has warned that customers will become “victims” of AI hype from new industry entrants, even saying such newcomers will leave nothing behind except for “chicken feathers” (i.e., a Chinese expression for nothing).

The remarks represent another instance of a senior Hikvision executive downplaying the AI trend (see Hikvision President Addresses AI and USA Challenges), despite the company’s own marketing regularly doing the exact opposite. In this post, we examine Chen’s remarks, including:

  • Comments Made
  • Hikvision’s Previous Criticism of AI
  • AI Exuberance in China
  • Explanations for Hikvision Remarks
