The latest IMS report provides further evidence of ACTi's rapid growth in IP camera sales. ACTi is one of the most widely cited companies in the growing market of budget IP cameras, a trend we discussed as a force cutting into Axis and other incumbent's market share.

While Axis' global market share percentage in IP cameras fell between 2007 and 2008, ACTi's share and overall position rose from 9th to 6th.

According to IMS, ACTi leaped ahead of Vivotek, D-Link and Bosch in 2008 (though Vivotek should be expected given their significant revenue decline). That is significant given D-Link's distribution power and Bosch's overall strength in security.

Furthermore, given ACTi's continued growth and expansion in 2009, it's possible that ACTi's position could increase again (especially given Mobotix's shrinking growth).

These results were published in Axis financial statements and can be downloaded from  Axis' Q3 2009 report and Q4 2008 report.

[Update 2012: Since then, ACTi has fallen behind the pace of the rest of the market.]
