It's hard to critique anything too harshly for $31, but if their facial recognition software is detecting "inanimate objects, such as boxes, shelves, or cabinets"  as a face, then I have to wonder if they hired some Dahua engineers who struggled with this as well.

HIVIDEO told IPVM they developed the facial detection themselves

This often seems to be low-cost Chinese manufacturer code for "got ahold of some source code and modified it to run on our device".

how would you say it compares to a Genetec unit which is 3000% higher in costs?

i dont see how this didnt win "the best new product" They should have sold a thousand of these so they could have put their entry fee in.

Well, at least it is  a more compact product than the FaceSnap recorder we sold approx. 22 years ago AND it's color instead of B/W. But the accuracy has not changed a bit in all those years...

When i see the manufacturers name in all caps, the first 3 letters standout. Maybe just too use to seeing it in media but it looks weird to me.

If the detection issue is high viewing angle overhead, would some reference shots at a higher angle increase detection. Is John 1 from front and John 2 from overhead angle.

Might be a simple solution for no extra cost. Doesn't matter if it identifies as John 1 or 2. So long as it doesn't identify John as Bob.

Worth a quick test.

#4, can you clarify? What do you mean by 'reference shots'? Users cannot submit new shots to 'train' the system. We could move the camera. We could make the FoV wider, we could change the angle, etc.
