Amazon may be lining up ADT as its next victim but ADT is happy to promote Amazon.

It's a fine line they're dancing.  On one hand, you want to appeal to the masses, and what better way to show that you're innovative than compatible with Alexa.  Anything Smart Home related today, needs to have Google Home or Alexa compatibility or you're already falling behind.  On the other hand, you are serving up your customers for an easy swap to Amazon.  My thought is the average consumer is going to see this as a great feature and not realize that they can swap all home security over to Amazon at this point.

I agree with that. The average consumer will not recognize it now but when Amazon gears up their security system marketing, the pitch will be straightfoward - "Keep the Amazon Alexa you use for everything the same, just swap in the new security Amazon hardware."

They should have promoted Google Home as a safer option than Alexa.

While I agree with you, I think Amazon still has the majority market share (if anyone has numbers I'd like to see).  I can tell you from my circle, my family, friends, few (very few) residential customers, they all have Amazon.  But supporting both, and marketing with Google Home, may have been safer.

It is also interesting given that ADT has already partnered with a home automation platform (Samsung SmartThings) to the point they've co-branded product factory integrated with the technology:

So, not only is ADT 'cutting their own throats' by marketing a competitor, they are eroding their own marketshare by marketing that competitor.

This is 100% made in the same factory as 2GIG. I would bet my life on it.

I think anything that ADT does to make them look more appealing to Amazon is a win.  They are going to wither on the vine if they can't convince Amazon to scoop them up.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. Consumers want to control their systems from Alexa. If your system isn't integrated you may not win the business.

That being said, maybe it's time as an industry we push back against using AI like this in the home for your security system....or maybe that's a terrible idea and pushing against something as potentially big as AI will destroy you...maybe the AI will just destroy you in the coming years!
