Some more commentary on the Milestone relationship. As we reported when analyzing Milestone's 2017 financials, earlier in the year Milestone had 100% ownership of Arcules. However, Milestone tells us that now they are a minority shareholder (whether that it is 49%, 1% or somewhere in between was not disclosed).

That Arcules is sharing at least some part of Milestone's code base is a big deal. Building a VMS is a major development task, taking hundreds of man-years to do. While it is easy to think just about display live and recorded video, a full enterprise VMS has a vast arrange of time-consuming features to develop (e.g., look at various features Eagle Eye is still missing 6 years in). We will see when Arcules is released but things like having a thick client and broad camera support are notable advantages compared to 'regular' 'startups'.

Also, Arcules says they have 60 to 70 employees already, which is huge for a year or so old company in this industry. And while they are not disclosing how much they have received in funding from mom and dad (Canon + Milestone), simply that employee count implies they will burn through $10 million this year and more next.

It's an interesting play, especially leveraged on Milestone...

"earlier in the year Milestone had 100% ownership of Arcules"

"Milestone tells us that now they are a minority shareholder"

Who is now the majority shareholder of Arcules?

Canon, as I believe that is where the money is coming from, however, they are not disclosing where they are getting funding from outside of their tagline "Arcules is a Canon group (NYSE: CAJ) company powered by technology from Milestone Systems."

Where does this leave installers?

Where and how are they marketing it?

Are they going directly to their Milestone customer base, transferring major clients cutting out the installer? We have seen this with their buying support direct model.

As a Milestone dealer, this concerns me..

They are offering various analytics it would be interesting to know if they have developed the analytics in such a short time or Cannon has pitched in with the analytics algorithms.

I'm excited to see how Arcules captures this audience. It's high-time that the Milestone family of VMS platforms releases a cloud-offering. I'm interested to see a deeper analytic and edge-based IOT integration.

Some Analytic features I'd love to see are Heat Mapping (this would be phenomenal for retail businesses that want to consolidate their video to a central cloud offer) especially if they can package the data to be "business" savvy for retailers to do studies on traffic patterns to move products to more "frequented" locations in store.

LPR/ANPR - this would be awesome in the cloud - seriously.

Facial - if they could adapt some of the analytic algo's from Google / Facebook into their app, they would blow the socks off of most of the market.

I'm looking forward to your testing for performance and results validation.
