Do you plan on testing these with Wave and the integrated analytics on the x series at all? I have an x series camera coming tomorrow I am going to be testing and curious to know what you guys think.

We don't have immediate plans to test the Wisenet X analytics, but I did look at how they integrated with Wave during our testing.

You basically just add a camera rule for an analytic event and can use it to trigger whatever you want from the normal slew of Wave/NxW/Spectrum actions.

This is a simple intrusion analytic triggering an alarm layout in Wave:

Here is a video showing how to configure events in WAVE using on-camera analytics.  Note that the analytic has to be configured first in the camera.

i would love to see some testing on the new Wave.

Yea you have to set up the analytics in the camera first before you set up the rules in WAVE.   Would be nice if you didn't have to jump to the cameras web GUI but overall it works well.

That's a little disappointing. Hopefully, that will change soon.

Ethan,

Another interesting data point to consider is to turn OFF the smartcodec processing and leave only the H265 in place.

The cam I have, a QNV model, changed the 'quality' of the stream but maintained the same bitrate as h264.   The idea being that one would lower the 'target bit rate' in h265 mode to match the detail level that h264 was providing.

It would be interesting to know if this family does the same thing.

How did you 'change' the 'quality' of the stream? Did you decrease it? If so, the benefit of smart codecs is that they dynamically and intelligently decrease quality in regions of low motion / activity, rather than the entire video feed.

Also, smart codecs dynamically adjust the I frame interval which is a major driver of bandwidth savings that will not be accomplished by just changing the quality level.

In my test, I turned off all the Wisenet processing so only the CODEC would change.

The cam was in VBR mode with a max value appx 10Mbits. Pic shown below.

As I changed the cam from H264 to H265.... the bitrate stayed the same.

I asked them about this and the reply was:

"With H.265 please note that you will see the benefit when lowering the default bitrate. The idea is that you can push out higher resolution video and keep the quality at lower bitrates than that of H.264. If the same was done on H.264 you’ll see degradation of image quality"

I did not explore any further with H265 on this cam.   Thus the reason for me asking about this newer one.
