Calculator - NEW Advanced Searching, Camera Favorites, Model Adding

PUBLIC - This article does not require an IPVM subscription. Feel free to share.

The IPVM Calculator has significantly improved your ability to work with 5,500+ camera models:

  • Advanced searching - now pick cameras based on specific resolution range desired (e.g., 4MP - 6MP), form factors (e.g., only PTZs or bullets and domes), IR range (e.g., at least 30m) and AoV (e.g., 90°+ or <20°). This will let you quickly discover and select the right camera for your application.
  • Camera Favorites - select which models are your favorites across the 5,500+ models. They will be shown up top making it faster and easier to add your favorites to projects.
  • Model Adding - Now, if your search for a model and it is not available, click a link and immediately submit it to us. We will have it added and responded to you within 1 business day.

Already, 60% of the 200,000+ cameras saved in the IPVM calculator selected specific camera models. With these enhancements to make it easier to find, select and add camera models, we expect this to go up even further.

Video Overview

Watch the short 2 and a half minute video below that shows the enhancements in action together:

Easier To Find Model Selection

To start, we have made it easier to locate where to select your own camera models (now from 5,500+ models across 40+ manufacturers, as shown below:

Improved Layout of Brands and Models

Now, it is easier to scan across the 40+ brands and 5,500+ models, see new vs old below:

Advanced Searching

Now, even if you do not know the exact model you want, you can use the IPVM database and our new embedded searching to find the right model for your application by dynamically filtering for resolution, form factor, IR range and AoV:

For those familiar with our Camera Finder, we've brought that type of power directly into the Design Calculator. In the same way, you will able to find models with the resolution, form factor, IR range and AoV you wanted but that you may not have considered.

Favoriting Cameras

Many designers have favorite camera models that they use repeatedly on projects. Rather than scan through all the 5,500+ models, you can now mark which ones are your favorites and they will be displayed at the top of the list for easy selection, as shown in the demo below:

Getting More Information On Models

If you want to learn more about a model found, you can now click directly from the model result inside the Calculator to our specifications page to see more details about the camera and the best matches to that camera, example shown below:

Adding More Models

Submit models missing from the Calculator right from the camera selection modal. If a model name/number is not found, we immediately display a link and message to send to us. Within 1 business day, those camera model(s) will be added. The workflow below shows this:

Hide Focal Length and Imager Size

While we have made it easier to select and add models, we are simultaneously de-emphasizing manual entry of focal length and imager size because (1) models entered are based on the manufacturer datasheet, listing the actual AoV while (2) calculating based on focal length often produces incorrect results. At the same, we still allow doing this, we just hide it, by default:

People are using the camera model request feature, here are a handful just tonight:

Good news, people are using it! Bad news, we have a lot to enter tomorrow! :)

I am happy that people are using, again please take advantage of that.

Maybe I don't understand something, but when using the new search some of my old cameras aren't showing up.  For example searching for Pelco IMM12018 or IMM12036 shows no cameras.  I was able to find it by going back to some old diagrams and selecting it and then selecting it as a favorite, but it doesn't appear in the list otherwise.

PS I assume this is a software limitation, but the Pelco IMM12027 is a 270 degree camera but when selected it only outputs like a bullet camera.

Andrew, you are correct. The IMM cameras definitely exist in our database but aren't showing up in search. We'll look into it and post back.

You are also correct that the IMM12027 doesn't display correctly. We're planning to improve multi-imager support and it should work properly then.

The fix is in production now and you should be able to search for the IMM 180 and 360 models. Let us know if you have any other issues.
