Dome Versus Turret Camera Usage Statistics 2017

Published Aug 07, 2017 11:57 AM

Turret cameras are a growing segment within video surveillance. Indeed, many integrators argued strongly for turrets in an IPVM discussion.

However, 125+ integrators told us about their preferences, explaining which form factors they used more and why:

Dome cameras are the preference for the majority of integrators for the following reasons:

I know this is a tricky subject, but how many integrators gave feedback to form this report?

I work for a Hik Distributor and we sell almost 4-5 times more turrent than domes.
Main reasons:
- better IR
- less prone to becoming dirty
- rain falls off easily.

We actually market the DS-2CD21xx series as indoor. They are IP66 but IR is not 100% on all installs. With HIK's turret we never have issues.

Sorry, just realized you mentioned 125+ integrators gave info, my bad.
The other info still might be interesting :)

What other information do you want?

I certainly believe your results. On the other hand, there are Axis, Avigilon, Hanwha, etc integrators and, because those manufacturers do not offer turrets, that is going to shift the overall integrator results towards domes. This point is made in the report - "Fewer Manufacturers Offer A Turret Camera"

If only a few manufacturers make turrets a bullet vs dome would have been more interesting for me. Given the manufacturer info the outcome is somewhat predictable.

It was not predictable to us and probably many others, especially after the initial discussion on domes vs turrets.

We do have other stats coming out on different form factors including bullets.

In Kuwait, the choice is simply based on regulations. Government regulations call for all indoor  cameras to be dome and all outdoor cameras to be bullet or PTZ. Turrets are simply not an option whatever their advantages might be.

If you were installing cameras into a constant moisture environment such as car wash - would you install domes or turrets? What's your experience?

Based on this discussion it seems turrets are a better choice.
