Hello Ethan,

I was surprised about the conclusion of the ONVIF out not being available.
I might have been misled, but when I installed NxWitness/DWSpectrum on my network it immediately detected the several UNIVIEW NVR's we had connected and provided with the correct password, immediately got the streams from each camera.

 

 

Besides this I would like to point out at least two features which we not addressed:

  • Smart Search (local and browser)
  • Corridor View
  • Camera and NVR firmware management from internet files

I am not sure if the other NVR's support these features and as such maybe they are considered "standard", so please do correct me if it is the case.

I'd like to see a test on Uniview's Block Storage system for HDD file size & fragmentation. I've found tremendous advantages using UNV's UBS system with HDDs, especially in conjunction with the WD Purple HDDs we install. It's a fantastic arrangement.

We've also never had an ONVIF problem with UNV, in fact, they're MORE ONVIF compliant than the other two big Chinese companies in our experience (Try to sync your time code on a Dahua NVR with ONVIF... I'd be interested to what ONVIF versions & profiles are having troubles.

Cloud firmware update is unique to UNV at this moment in time, to my knowledge. Innovation is hard to come by in China, I think it should be highlighted.

I understand every router on earth has had this feature since their inceptions, however, the Chinese CCTV MFG's never seemed to really think about... Perhaps after Mirai we'll see more come out with it, but UNV was the first and as far as I know, remains the only company to have it.

I'm a bit tired so I hope I didn't miss something only to redundantly ask, but,
regarding exporting recording-sections... including multi-cam...

- What format(s) will it export to?
- What speed does it skim around and respond to changing time/date? any lag?
- Does it export a player, if the format is proprietary?
- Is there a basic Mac client?

Tested NVR308-32 with EZView before.

I think it quite good for NVR app.
Document management can list all of the exported video/picture.
Event can be share to Viber/FTP/Google drive. (I saw this in the app but didn't test it myself)
And build-in bandwidth history for Wifi/mobile.

Devices can be searched out by ONVIF search tools (Or ONVIF driver in VMS) if this device support it.
Maybe prepare for Profile G ?
I didn't know any embedded DVR/NVR support it yet...

I think they are referring to the ability to use a VMS to view streams from the NVR. Effectively turning the NVR into a really nice managed switch. Similar to using a DVR as an encoder.

Its great that you've managed to test the UNIVIEW NVR's its getting a great trend and advertising this year in our market, but im surprised on the Camera Compatibility with Axis Cameras; were already proposing to have NVR  Model UN325C  Hybrid with Axis - so on this section did the Axis camera work only using custom protocols ?  also whats the camera hardware drive tested ?

Am I one of the rare few who actually prefer external power supplies? Sure, it is easier to manage the IEC cord vs the power brick. But, if you were to have a PSU failure (and who hasn't), would you rather swap out the entire DVR, or just a brick, which you may already have on hand and can swap in a few minutes?

I had a discussion recently about this concerning small LCD monitors. I prefer the units with the external brick. I simply velcro them to the backside of the display, which effectively ends up being about the same wire management. But in the case of a bad PSU, I can simply replace the brick and move on. I don't have to rip open the display and take out the power board and replace caps or wait for a board swap.

Bottom line is the minor, one-time inconvenience of managing the brick is not that much of a hassle when considering the time savings you get if/when it fails.

Hikvision NVRs also support 300 Meter PoE.

You can download the latest firmware for DS76**NIE2 DS76**NII2 and DS7**NII4 from Hikvision Latin America distributor.

When you change to "long distance PoE", bandwidth at each port changes to 10Mb(which is enough).

FLIR Response

I enjoy seeing the tests and the guys at IPVM do an amazing job.  You can't possibly know the nuances on a bench so it's great when actual users of the products chime in to help. 

FLIR embedded NVR's do have the following features:

Cloud Update.  Since we released the QR code this has been built in. It requires either admin privileges locally or can be executed remotely by someone with admin privileges.  This starts when you first plug it in to make sure the install has the most current released version.

Bulk Export. You can select by channel(s), by stream, by type of event and by date/time.  It's faster than the normal search mode export when you know what you want.  USB3 and eSata on the big machines, USB2 on the small with a requirement for a secondary powered drive.  Regardless, HD transfer still takes some time.

Syncronized Playback.  At this time we only allow 4 streams to be played back at the unit, more using the software and those can be synchronized.

I figured I would chime in since the favorability report essentially said we were unknown!

John, that's a great question and frankly....I don't know!  

Browser functionality is not available outside the site when using the FLIR QR (Device ID) so I don't use it.

The software does allow it remotely.  It also allows searching the sub stream and exporting it, which can be handy.

I could still set up DDNS for that functionality, but I'm lazy.   I'll log into my system after I get some coffee and check.

Synchronized playback and multi channel export from the browser is what makes this Univision NVR appealing and unique. I don't think I've seen this on any other low cost unit.

Coffee and breakfast completed.  I browsed in using IE and found the following:

I could view 4 cameras and they would sync to the time I brought them in.  If I chose in the timeline to move a single camera, that one would no longer be sync'd and the only way to recover was to bring them all in again.

I would also mention that since this is a service brought through the device, it could vary based on the model and firmware.

Anyway, didn't want to leave you hanging and I use the Client since we have one for PC and MAC.

UNV browser UI can do the multi-channels sync playback.
Work in IE & Firefox but not Chrome and opera.

BTW. Sync playback in browser should be a easy task for every brand.
