Pelco Expands Manufacturing in China

As part of the details emerging from Pelco's layoffs, an interview with Pelco in SSN reveals that Pelco will be expanding its manufacturing inside of China. Specifically, Pelco notes that it, "does not think it can be competitive paying 35 percent import duties, it will have a fully operational Chinese manufacturing plant by March." At the same time, Pelco stated that they were not moving jobs overseas. US based manufacturing of video surveillance products is increasingly rare, with Pelco being one of the few to still do this.

In September 2009, Pelco acquired their manufacturer representative in Asia as part of plans to expand into the Asia/Pacific market.
