In the comparison test of the 25' cable which is factory terminated, the older chipset looks much more natural. Also license plate is sharper. For the longer cable runs I do definetly notice the improvements

Is the old firmware compatible with the new chips and vice versa?

If not compatible, can we tell just by which firmware we have which chips we have?

Chris-yes, there are no old/new compatibility issues either way. Only with new/new do you get the extended distance benefits. I will post version information as soon as it is available.

Is it a safe assumption that HIK only shipped new chips with new firmware?

Meaning that if someone has old firmware they would have (unless they rolled back) old chips.
