Hikvision continues to grow in popularity among integrators, while Dahua HDCVI product must still be found through OEMs in North America, some of which sell directly to end users online.

There was (a sliver of) hope that Dahua's takeover of the HDcctv Alliance would offer them a door to the West. The recent decision by the Alliance to change the nomenclature of the technology from HDcctv 2.0 AT to HDCVI 2.0 and the Alliance's history of irrelevancy likely means that HDCVI will continue to be sold by no-name brands in the west.

Thanks for that review Jon. I took a close look at this machine yesterday. It will be an active part of our product going forward. It has a place in the system renovation market.

I am anxious to see the Turbo cameras. They claim the HD cameras will work well beyond the 100m mark on existing coax. If that is true, it will be a serious player in the system replacement market.

I understand the appeal of replacing existing analog systems. Would anyone plan on selling this to compete with the big box stores? Lead with this product for those small 4/8/16 size customers.

Did you guys ever crimp them with higher quality connectors at 1000'? Did it fix the image?

Sebastien, this recorder does not claim to integrate with SDI, which is a different format than TVI. See: HD Analog vs IP Tutorial

New firmware version 3.1.2 adds valuable features to the Hikvision Tribrid DVRs.

  • 7300 series support disabling analog channels to gain IP channels. 7308HQHI can have up to 10 IP channels and the 7316HQHI can have up to 18 IP channels. Resolution is limited to 1080p.
  • 7200 series supports VCA (line crossing and intrusion detection) on 1 channel, and 7300 supports VCA on 2 channels for turbo channels only.
  • Playback of multiple cameras is automatically synchronized in the local interface.
  • Admin can export a password recovery file in user configuration, and the password key file can be used to reset the password in the password recovery menu.

The last section on cable quality losses merit by using different cable lengths when trying to test the effects of poor cable terminations. You have to use the same cable and cable length to test the effects of poor cable termination.
