Good article. A few questions-

1) Is Exacq Vision 64 bit? An earlier discussion was disappointed another Exacq product was 32 bit.

2) Regarding events/alarms, how does Exacq behave when a camera sends video because of an I/O alarm? Is the video treated the same as if the video was sent because motion was detected? Can the user tell why the video is recorded (motion or i/o)? Can this be searched for? This article mentions soft alarms originating from the operator. What happens when the event begins due to a sensor at the edge?

3) Storage. Can you record to external storage? Is it limited?

4) How many computers would be in a typical Exacq installation? Typically, is the recorder, playback, and storage all in one box?

Hey Mark,

1. Exacq has been 64 bit for a couple of versions, now. I'd have to look up exactly when it changed, but it's fairly recent. I want to say late winter/early spring this year.

2. Alarms are treated separately from VMD. By default, when camera VMD is activated, the video pane border turns blue. Alarms turn red. So there's a visual difference. If you search video, same thing. Timeline is blue for VMD, red for alarm, and green for continuous.

3. I'm not sure what you mean here. Limited how? Yes, you can record to external storage and Exacq has started offering their own. I believe you can record to any iSCSI device.

4. It depends on the size. Some of their appliances may work fine for live viewing in addition to recording, but I believe they generally recommend a separate recorder and client. Anecdotally, we run Exacq on a pretty powerful laptop (dual quad core, 12 GB RAM) and even viewing 6-8 1080p cameras, it doesn't really choke. 4K cameras, though, noticeably impact performance. So be careful what you're viewing and recording at once.

Thank you for your prompt answer.

Visiting Exacq, some of their NVRs can hold twenty (!) hard disks, so that answers my expanability question.
