Good device for small simple installs.

It actually is designed to fit on a single gang style electrical box. A single gang mud ring is required to mount it to a 4 square box.

What’s the limitation with putting the control panel inside the reader? like , Isonas.

one less devise to install, one less cable to pull.

Hello Nidal,

Combining the reader and the controller in a single unit puts the door controller on the unsecured side of the door.

Someone could potentially knock the reader/controller off the door and gain access to lock wiring. Putting the controller outside the door leaves it more vulnerable than mounting the reader inside and away from potential vandalism or tampering.

There are a number of access products that install this way, but they really only should be used on interior, non-high security openings. See our note for more detail: Combo Reader Risk

Just my two cents, I am not an expert on the Edge Solo and I have not tried it all by itself. There are software company partners that manage the Edge solo devices.

This is from HID website: Find a Partner | HID Global HID Global offers fully-functional and easy-to-use IP-based access control solutions which, when coupled with our software providing partners, bring intelligence to the door and enable a wide variety of solution deployments including remote management and report generation via standard Web browsers, in-house enterprise solutions, hosted solutions and more.

I am currently testing it with Home - AMT (Automated Management Technologies (AMT)

Using their hosted solution. You can also purchase their software to do your own hosting or have the customer host it on their own server. AMT also has video integration.
Its worth checking out. I have not checked out any of the other providers but there is a lot more options with this device then just stand alone door access.

Hello, Bryce.

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, AMT has worked with a number of companies to provide 'afterware', or additional management software for the Solo series.

Several years ago, I personally used a platform (which I believe was purchased by AMT) named 1Point from Envoy Data. In summary: it did not work that well, and support was lousy. (via Envoy Data, not AMT)

Since the stock Solo controller can be reflashed to the more stable 'E400 Host' configuration, it seemed more prudent to just take that step and use better supported platforms.

Good luck with the AMT product. Like you mention, I believe they use Axis AVHS for video integration. However, using the controller in "host" configuration as part of a larger system is going to be the most ideal option for most. As such, we are testing Genetec's Security Center Synergis module.

  • No Integrations: The Edge Solo is a 'closed' system, and integrating the controller to video surveillance or intrusion alarm platforms is not possible using API or SDK.

As usual, John is wrong again. The Edge Solo works seamlessly in Genetec Security Center, and can then be integraded with video, intercoms, and intrusion detection. We run all 4 systems in our Genetec system, and all of our controllers are Edge Solo.

No, you are dead wrong.

Edge Solo is not the same as Edge Host. You must reconfigure/reflash the firmware to make a standalone Solo part of a Host based system. I am currently doing a test demonstrating this.

Furthermore, this finding is true of all Solo Edge readers. No platform integrates to an Edge in Solo configuration.

He said it was not possible, you said it is possible. He should have said out of the box it is not possible.

Again, this is Brian's post, not mine. Do you know how to read a byline? Here, let me help you:

Listen, you posted an arrogant, uninformed comment. Rather than doubling down or making excuses, you'd be better off being quiet or apologizing.

Who is 'he'? I wrote this report, not John. Please point out where statements disagree.

"As usual, John is wrong again."

Brian has already responded on the facts of your incorrect claim. Also, I did not write this post, so you are doubly wrong. Nice job!

My apologies, as you typically make most of the mistakes, I just assumed it was you.

I would like to point out that you can find the following link in the above article:

HID® EDGE® EDGEPlus® Solo ES400 83000 | HID Global

Where you can find this exact line:

"And the EDGEPlus Solo ES400 IP Access Solution can be converted from stand-alone operation to a system reader for a host environment quickly and easily through the web browser. "

Your argument is not with me, it is with HID, and the fact that you didn't fully read linked documents.......

You need to understand that 'Edge Solo' does not equal 'Edge Host'.

As earlier stated and noted in HID's documents, it needs to be converted.

At that point, it is no longer a Solo, it is a Host. This is what is integrated into Genetec - Edge Host, not Edge Solo.

We are finalizing a Genetec access control report, including an integration with Edge Host, and you can pick that apart when it is released in the next week or two. I am looking forward to hearing from you specifically.

Thanks.

You never said that, all you said was it's "not possible." As a review of a product don't you think it's necessary to include ALL the details, not just the ones you deem as negative?

I would also like to point out that as the purveyors of a website people PAY to read it is your responsibility to separate your personal frustration from the subject matter. As Joe Schmoe the random visitor to the site, nobody expects me to say anything intelligent or act in any particular way. You, on the other hand, are expected to act in a professional matter, not to act like the teenage moderator of a pokemon forum who throws around childish insults and jabs like "here let me help you" in a sarcastic nature. I can't remember a time I was watching CNN when an anchor turned to a guest and said "Well maybe you're just a big doody head." You should have replied to my very first statement with your last statement. Stay classy IPVM.

"nobody expects me to say anything intelligent or act in any particular way"

Dustin,

I have neither the time nor interest for unprofessional, petty fighting. And I absolutely do expect members to try to act intelligently and ask questions without condemning us right off the back (especially when they are obviously wrong).

I have cancelled your company's account. Good bye.

John
