I'm surprised to even hear you mention about binning. I thought that fallback had pretty much died out in any new cameras.

Brian, opinions are mixed on binning. I would say that producing any image, even if it's only detection level, is better than pitch black, though.

John. What is the hair color of the test subject holding the Eye Test card. The Q 1604 color is significantly different from the others. If i were looking to ID the subject in the Axis view, i would think his hair and beard are black.

Jim, in these photos, Arecont is closest to my actual hair color, which is red, but more like auburn and less like Carrot Top.

John, we just discovered (the hard way) that unlike their earlier cameras, this series annoyingly only supports two specific lenses - both wide-angle. This makes the camera much less useful than the older ones that accept nearly any CS format lens.

This limitation is something Arecont really should make much more obvious on their website - you click on the bold lens link on the left-hand side, you see a great many lenses:

http://www.arecontvision.com/product/MegaVideo%C2%AE+Compact+Series/AV3116DN

Only if you click on the greyed-out lens link under the camera image do you see the limited options.

I'm curious, why is Axis included in this comparison with a 1.3 MP camera while the others are at 3 and 2 MP comparatively.

Because Axis does not have a true WDR at 2MP or 3MP so they are limited to the WDR offering they have.
