I believe you meant QR Code, and not RFID in the video and article...

In the bit-rate graph it says kbps in the title but Kb/s in the vertical scale. The preceding paragraph mentions "averaging 2.5-3 Mb/s". Can I assume the values in the graph are actually bytes/s not bit/s ?

No, we up-leveled the kilobits per seconds (Kb/s) to megabits per second (Mb/s). We did not use KB/s or MB/s, which signifies bytes.

The graph values are bits.

According to Verkada, exports are transcoded to H.264 at the time of export for playback software compatibility from the high resolution stream which is compressed and stored via H.265 on the camera.

Most browsers don't support h.265 playback (Can I use... ) Does this mean the live stream is a separate h.264 video stream to what is recorded on camera? Or does it mean that even local video viewing is proxied through their cloud for transcode?

Once you stop paying them to make the cameras work for testing and they become bricks will you raffle them off to IPVM members?

I'm building a new book shelf and I could use two industry-themed bookends.

Not surprised at all regarding the inability to change the settings. I just don't understand what their logic is. You know how much of a pain it is when we (in the east coast) are working on a camera at 2am and want to see how the camera would look in color? we have to send a request, wait until the next day for someone to change the setting, wait until that night and see if it worked, and if not, send another message and wait another day to start over. The amount of time we have wasted in these last few months configuring and testing ONE camera is pushing us to look at other solutions.

It's too bad that they are just not listening to their customers. I have seen the European version of these cameras (I believe VERTIV in the U.S. uses the same cameras) and the images are better than what you are getting with some tweaking, but unfortunatelly they run their business as a software company, not like a security business, and it's evident that they lack experienced security people over there, they just keep making the same mistakes over and over......and all they care about is how much they are valued at...well, that number can go down real quick if they don't get their act together

Does anyone know who manufacturers the cameras for Verkada?

Vivotek is the contract manufacturer for Verkada but the firmware (good or bad) is Verkada's, not Vivotek.

That's what I thought. So it would be interesting to find the Vivotek equivalent and see if it performs better since the settings would most likely be avaiable

find the Vivotek equivalent

There is no Vivotek equivalent. This is not a Honeywell setup where they are OEMing something. Vivotek is making it for Verkada but they do not design or use existing Vivotek cameras for Verkada.

Wow. I remember, years ago, when I first switched from Vivotek's bullet cam to Axis P3367-VE and thinking to myself, "Why didn't I do this earlier"...

Not that the poor image quality is bad enough for Verkada but I have heard from multiple people that clients are seeing an excessive amount of failing Verkada cameras at client sites. Anyone else hearing this?

Curious to why Hik was used

They are the most commonly used budget camera in the West.

If you are alluding to not testing Hikvision at all, as you have asked, Should IPVM Ban Testing Dahua And Hikvision Products Because Of Human Rights Abuses?

IPVM has weight, any time a camera is featured in a test and does well is a boon for that product, it's pratically a showcase. Not sure what a manufacturer has to do to lose that spotlight. It's a little crazy in today's politically correct cancel culture that a banned manufacturer with it's hand in human rights atrocities still get's the primetime treatment; I would argue in a more durable, less offended society such acts would still be worthy of exclusion. Someone who doesn't know better would think IPVM benefits from highlighting Hik; I of course know better and I'm aware of John's fanatical adherence to fairness and objectivity
