With The Demise Of Hikvision DDNS What Services Are You Using For Dynamic IP Updater?
DynDNS
Most commonly, we have seen DynDDNS and No-IP, e.g., discussed here Should I Charge Customers For Remote Camera Access?
Interestingly, No-IP is actively recruiting Hikvision customers here.
I have used DynDNS for several years and it seems to be reliable and work well. I have had problems with Cisco router not updating on DynDNS but working fine with No-IP. The DynDNS has always worked well with netgear routers and PC updater software.
NO-IP.com
DYNDNS.com

We don't have any luck with NO-IP.COM on Hik TVI DVRs
no dramas on any other brands or modems/routers etc but just can't get it to work on DVRs.
Having no test function doesn't help.
It should be a no brainer but it just doesn't work.
select enable
select no-ip as type
Server as dynupdate.no-ip.com
Site domain name as mysite.mysecuritycamera.com
Username - have tried both my NO-IP.COM account login username and my email address
Password of my NO-IP.com account
All I ever get is the message "connect to server failed"
I emailed hik about firmware and added a question about no-ip not working and they answered my firmware question but ignored the NO-IP one completely.
It either doesn't work or I'm missing something very easy here.
Do you have a DNS server set in the network settings page? If not, that’s likely it. Works fine on the many units I’ve installed.
Yes I have used the routers address, google nothing makes any difference.
e.g. 192.168.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
Nothing works and what makes it more frustrating is it doesn't appear to do anything when anything is changed and "applied" the only way to get it to have "a trying to connect" message is to to reboot the DVR.
It's not a huge problem as I have to get into the router to set up the port forwarding anyway so I can set it up in there. The problem is not all routers cater for NO-IP.COM. in which case I then use their update client DUC on a PC on a LAN
That is where the problem is as my next install has no PCs on the network. So I probably will have to get a dyndns.org account as most routers generally have either or both NO-IP & DYNDNS.ORG for their ddns.
Just frustrating that the service in the DVR doesn't work for me in Hik DVRs.
Yes, I always use Google DNS 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 and I forgot to mention a reboot after setting everything up. Upon reboot it works like a champ.
So you definitely use
dynupdate.no-ip.com as the server name.
&
"mysite"."no-ip.domain.com" as the domain
That's the only entries that can be wrong.
I’m not a HIK guy, but this seems pretty clear instructions.

Yes I know it is straight forward like any other ddns setup. But it is so frustrating when everything about it says just do this and it still doesn't work for me. I was just enquiring is there something else (not documented like the rebooting after changing which I had already figured out)
Thanks for your input anyway.
Yes. In fact, to be a step more specific, I always use:
dynupdate.no-ip.com
any-hostname.ddns.net
Maybe triple check your login credentials for the No-IP account? I know that sounds remedial, but stranger things have happened.
Yes I have verified and tried both my no-ip.com username and my email address and used either with my password and can login to my no-ip.com account no problem. It just won't update via a Hik DVR for me. Use the same in a modem/router no problem. It just does not make any sense.
I have only ever used the email address login, never the username. Maybe your password is getting truncated due to length? Maybe change it to a simpler password temporarily for testing?
Ok I'll try that . it is 9 chars maybe Hik imposes an 8 char limit.
9 c works with TVT DVRs, modem/routers I've never had a problem but at this stage I'm willing to try anything
Nope I tried 8 chars It makes no difference
Fixed it.
It appears Hikvision has a limit on the length of the domain name.
Previously I had been using "myname". mysecuritycamera.com which works everywhere except on Hikvision boxes but simply shortening it to "myname".ddns.net and it all works fine.
Thanks for your input
All good now.
And we all learn something that is probably similar across many brands.
Great job and thanks for reporting the success back!
God we got to the bottom of it for you. I will keep that filed away somewhere in case I decide to use a long url some day lol.
I would jump on the password change. I have experienced this with other products. The internet based password system takes characters hardware devices won’t. I don’t know if a recorder will respond with an invalid password or if there is a list of approved characters or length.
I have had the same result using the hv nvr , as Hv said would not support unit as bought on line , and no record of unit.
unit has everything hv , sn, exacq duplicate, definitly is Hv , but they claim no unit exist. NOT supported due to overseas purchase on line.
definitely wierd situation
packaging, box, set up, software, everything about unit is Hv , Just no support from HV.
Guess I will look for other company on next projects
I am glad to hear this actually. They are protecting the dealers who by through authorized distribution.
No-ip with the company domain name,
also using their monitoring service, to ping TCP port to DVR's , working very well
We use DynDNS - Pro. We have over a hundred DDNS hosts under our account and it's been extremely reliable & easy to use/manage.
We charge a service/maintenance fee to our clients and a part of that covers our costs with for this. We provide the client the option of using a DDNS hostname or doing the manual updates themselves and remembering the WAN IP for their connection. Everyone so far has signs onto using the hostname/DDNS managed by us.
Easy.
We use the Express version of DynDNS which is a little cheaper for when you don't have a need for as many as the Pro.
...and likewise it's worked well for us and our clients get a name with a domain we created for our clients...keeps them tied to us that much more.
Hik-connect will keep your ip address updated just as a ddns service would.
