Any recommendations for the best wireless home security systems? Looking for something that is self managed and doesn't require a subscription or any recurring charges.

Honestly, you're not going to find many secure options that don't require some fee. We have a look at almost every option and only offer DMP. IMO DMP is one of maybe 2 or 3 manufacturers in the world that make two-way wireless sensors that can't be jammed or disabled. We offer a DIY option with DMP that has a month-to-month option.

John, what's the solution that you offer? You part of a company?

We offer a professional installation and/or self-installed wireless home/business security system.

The system includes (If you want) both wifi and cellular monitoring, we recommend two paths of communication; wifi isn't always reliable on it's own. If WIFI drops out, cellular will take over for both monitoring and smartphone communication.

All wireless sensors and keypads are two way and change frequency every 32 milliseconds to help ensure burglars can't jam or manipulate the wireless sensors or keypads. This is becoming a more common occurrence. To Brians point, they have not yet been hacked/jammed. Could it happen? Maybe, but not using traditional jamming tactics.

The connection from the system to our monitoring station is a direct connection; no 3rd party relays like other systems. The connection from the system to your smartphone uses a 256bit-aes encryption.

Some people tell us this is over-kill. But we have seen burglars get smarter of the past few years, and they'll keep getting smarter.

Why pay monthly? It's the only way we can continuously provide firmware and app updates to keep up with the latest technology and security practices. Without a monthly payment, there's no way DMP could support this kind of effort.

"Can't be" is not the same as "haven't been".

Touting any security product as infallible is too bold.

Doesn't Honeywell claim their new Lyric wireless system is more secure against hackers over their earlier offering? DSC, Honeywell and Interlogix all have wireless systems available through internet vendors as well. And, today someone mentioned that Honeywell's latest offering will be sold through Best Buy as well as other consumer outlets. I think DMP is still a closed market to the DIY.

Is the DSC Neo making similar claims against hacking their wireless product?

Honeywell does make that claim but they're vague in what they've done. It looks like the only security enhancement they've made in their wireless is offering a two-way wireless keyfob. Two-way wireless AND spread-spectrum frequency hopping is the only way to ensure secure and reliable communication between sensors and the control panel. They may have that, but I can't find info on it anywhere. I have been asking our Honeywell rep with no answers. Unfortunately, that panel is only available to select dealers, and the majority of the equipment they sell is still extremely vulnerable.

DSC is still using low-frequency one-way communication; interlogix is in the same boat along with 2GIG.

ELK and DMP are the only two manufacturers (available in the US) that I know of that have a secure sensor to control panel wireless security system. DMP is the only one to my knowledge that utilizes 256-bit AES communication between the control panel and smart phone app and the only one with a small distributed wireless system with two paths of communication.

We're selling more and more wireless now, both in homes and commercial systems. DMP is where we landed and had tested just about everyone. ELK is the next best option if DMP price is too high (which it is more expensive). ELK defiantly has more integration options and a little more versatility for a DIY guy who has some more technical skills.
