You are thinking hard this morning!

Now, why would that be practical? If I was ringing the doorbell, wouldn't that imply I did not have access to that site?

Just trying to get my share of kickstarter gold!

No, any occupants could also press the doorbell to enter. Also, service personel could be programmed to be let in at certain times, or friends etc,

But, its not just about opening the door.

Its about knowing who is at the door as well.

Once someone has unknowingly auto-enrolled in your system, you could tag them and give them access or just announce their presence or use IFTTT.

How would a fingerprint reader doorbell improve on a video doorbell?

Collecting good fingerprints is tricky enough when being deliberate. I'm not sure that even a high-end optical fingerprint sensor could collect enough data fast enough in just the short time a button is pressed.

You might be right, I'm not sure about how hard/expensive it would be to get reads from people not even trying to present correctly. On the other hand, if no one answers because there is no matching print, people will quite naturally give it another go, and usually a bit more deliberately.

So how would it improve on a video doorbell? With face rec or not?

Well on one that didn't use face rec you still have to get your device out and go to some screen, connect ...

This would simply announce, "Yo, it's Brian", or would use a distinctive doorbell tone if you didn't want to let them know what's up.

Also, it lets you program automatic behaviors for letting in people, or giving distinctive messages when your not around. "I told you I never want to see you again."

Video doorbell with working face rec would do a lot of the same stuff, they could be combined for greater access/security. Also, this could be a pretty small unit.

Anyway, if they can raise hundreds of thousands on pepper spraying cameras, somebody will go for this right?

I need to check if RingerFinger.com is taken...;)
