Maglocks are commonly used for electronic access control, but most are just two parts: the magnet and the armature. For double doors, dividing the armature into two pieces means a single maglock can be used to lock both sides rather than pay (significantly) more for dual maglocks. Split armatures cost ~$125 per set, compared to ~$600+ for another maglock.
