Who Says FLIR Systems Are Cheap, Take A Look A This Quote...

Warming the hearts of integrators everywhere should be this quote, given to a friend at a local church. The installer will put the cameras "wherever you want" on the day of the install...

Whats the first line item? Special discount of course. This is why there are no line item prices; you cant just break out special like that, and you want the discount, right?

DVR seems a bit undersized at 960H with HD cameras, but...

The following are not included and may be extra:

Fair quote?

960H, is he shopping at the ADI discount bin?

What do you think the total product price is here? $2,000 - $3,000? And only a 2TB hard drive for 16 cameras?

Considering that there are FLIR 16ch 12 camera 720p deals for around $700, I doubt it would be more than $1400. Retail.

This is a good sign, right? It means margins are alive and well, no?

Did he win the deal?

No, but he might have, my friend's church was considering it, though they were still looking for another quote. Had that one come in similar, I think they would have done it.

Now they are going to ask this guy a few questions that I suggested.

"Who Says FLIR Systems Are Cheap"

Your title is funny. Just a few years ago, cheap for FLIR meant $5,000 per camera....

Yeah, but that was for REAL FLIR, not Florex....

FLIR EMPLOYEE

I might suggest that's a 16 channel MPX (also 960h) recorder that does 1080p. Since the PTZ is 1080P. All the coax leads me to believe that as well.

When the job is done, those "Pro Series" cameras could also be 1080P. Of course, that would leave the storage a little under-sized for most people but it depends on the needs of the customer.

It's hard to imagine isn't it?

I don't think this scenario looks poorly on FLIR, but whoever this integrator is sure would make me look good! I need to set up shop in his town!

Assume that you and a helper could install the system in one day, what would you quote?

Do you break out line item costs?

I try not to breakdown costs unless asked for it. Reason being is that it's just one more thing a client can object to. "Why am I paying $50 for Coax connectors?" They don't need to see how the sausage is made.

On the other hand, we have clients who are mandated to see each line item with its associated cost. We have to find ways to keep a fair markup on items that are easily obtained off the shelf. We can simply add a labor line for setup and configuration in order to show a fair price for the product.

Is a fair price for this job closer to $5000 or $15000?

For sure closer to $5000. I guess I would need a site plan to be fair, but it's very hard to explain the $10,000 in overages (allegedly).
