Who Is The Smartest Person In The Video Surveillance Industry?

After 7 years of reading IPVM discussions and seeing constant contributors I have noticed there are really smart people in the IP Video industry (and some on the opposite end of the spectrum as well).

I'm curious if anybody has any nominees of someone they worked with who was simply off the charts. I don't know if I'm qualified to answer as I have only been in the industry for 8 years. I'm calling on the video surveillance vets to speak up!

I'll probably have to give John the nod as far as understanding the business side of the industry. I have yet to meet someone who understood the business aspect more.  However, there are some on the technical side who have amazed me in other ways as far as being capable to troubleshoot any system no matter what they were up against.  The Exacq founders like Rittman and Underwood always impressed me a lot too.

Anyway, curious to hear the feedback of the IPVM community and their take.

This is only setting up for a lot of contentious personality wars... I'd be careful with this topic.

Me.

;)

On a serious note, I usually aim specifically to NOT be the smartest guy in the room.

Like the saying goes, if you're the smartest one in the room, then you're in the wrong room.

At my company, not bragging but I'm usually the smartest one in the room.  Ever since I started telecommuting.

You would really have to have categories.  Smartest technology person?  Aaron Saks (Hanwha, Panasonic). Smartest Business Guy?  Robert Shaw (Video Insight).  I don't know what the category would be, but Kevin Nadai has to be in there somewhere, as well.

I would second Aaron Saks but also nominate Pierre Bourgeix as a forward thinker who understands the IT/OT convergence and security kill chain.

There's a lot of different types of smarts:

  • Technical Smarts - V. Damjanovski
  • Book Smarts - T. Rockoff
  • Street Smarts - M. Calhoun
  • Channel Smarts - M. Miller
  • Bovine Smarts - M. Major
  • Solid Smarts - M. Silva
  • Just-do-it Smarts - J. Dillabaugh

There are many great guys in the video surveillance industry. In case if there would be a vote I would most probably vote for

V. Damjanovski
M. Silva

And T. Rockoff was right that Analog HD has a good potential and not only IP.

Though to be fair to the good Doctor, I believe his vision was initially a Digital HD solution, aka HD-SDI, at least until the "Smartest Video Surveillance Guy not in the Industry" showed the way - The Real Inventor Of HD-CVI And HD-TVI?

Just when you thought you were that person, someone comes along to knock you off your high horse and give a reality check.

Their is a lot of smart people in every crowd and at different levels of smart and intelligence.

so Each and every situation has a different level of Smart People.

IT, Cameras, Switch's, Software, etc.

Each at a different level.

Very hard to put someone up on a pedistool ( i know spelling )

Well, this topic is going a lot better than I was fearing it would. Shows some hope in humanity.
