Who Does Server Rack Access Control?

Locking server racks are common, even ones fitted with standalone fingerprint readers:

Has anyone fitted building electronic control to these racks?  How did you do it, and what did you use?

There are a few ways of accomplishing this.  There is a company called TZ that makes rack handles that work with third party access control systems using their Preatorian bridge or you can deploy their Centurion managed system that also provides some environmental monitoring such as temp/humidity/moisture etc.

The company is based in Australia with an office in Chicago for the North American market.  The products are available through Anixter.

Here's the company website:

Interesting. I'll reach out to TZ and queue up a future post.

Salto has a nice server rack geo cylinder, online wireless, that integrates to a number of third-party access control system. Excellent quality, our customers have installed and large number of them.

Another nice cabinet locking option I have seen used is the Assa Abloy Aperio KS100 lock. It is a wireless lock that requires integration to third-party access systems but is integrated to a large number of systems. Here's another solution:

Know that these locks have been deployed in the field (as we've supplied credentials for use with them), but have no personal experience with the them.

SUPREMA

Suprema Access Control readers and Digitus Fingerprint-rack-locks are integrated together.

That means that in the Data-Center premise:

1- Customers/Users are enrolled at the Front desk (fingerprint capture). And then sent to the Access Control readers (Suprema) as well as Biometric Rack locks (Digitus)

2- Customers/Users are using Fingerprint for the first layer of Turnstiles/Cage doors (first picture: These are the Supernaps data-centers in the USA by SWITCH, with Suprema BioMini and BioEntry Plus installed)

Case Study here: http://www.prweb.com/releases/2014/01/prweb11463708.htm

3- Once users access the data-center cage that they have rent, they are also able to use Fingerprint in order to open the Server door Rack itself (video below).

Video example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_f0tAxauhM

And the cool stuff is that this is working together with all ACMs that have BioConnect integration (a list of 20+ ACMs including but not limited to: Lenel, SWH, Genetec, Honeywell, AMAG, S2 Security, Avigilon, Paxton, Pacom, RS2, ..)
