What To Do About Overdue Balances And Releasing Credentials?

I have a client of about 3 years that is being bought out by an investor that has an existing IT contractor that will be taking on my duties (general IT services). The new guy needs all the credentials for everything IT.

The issue is they currently owe me a considerable amount of money for services rendered to date. They have always slow paid me, which was fine when they were an active client. They used to send me two payments a month, which were stopped at the end of 2019. I haven’t received any payments this year and messages regarding future payments have gone unanswered.

My question is, should I hand over the only bit of leverage I have before getting paid? Do I have the legal right to withhold credentials?
