Does anyone know the laws regarding cameras recording public streets? I have a customer that put up a pole across the street on his neighbors property (with permission) and has a camera recording the entrance to their cul-de-sac (due to robberies in the neighborhood).
This has been up for close to a year. Recently one of his neighbors complained about the camera is recording the street and they don't like it. There are 10 families on the cul-de-sac and 8 of them want the camera, one doesn't care and the other is against it.
My understanding is that you are legally able to record anything that is view able from a public area (besides maybe zooming in on someones windows) is that correct?
The other question is crossing the street. He originally had a line crossing the street, I just upgraded the camera for him. The line is 18 feet above the street and it is a residential cul-de-sac. From my basic reading, the rules are just that the line has to be 16 feet up. But I dont see any rules about permits needed to be pulled. Does anyone know anything about this?
This is all in New Jersey if it makes a difference.
Thank you
