Any info on VR training for 1st responders?
Recommendations For 1st Responder Virtual Reality Training?
I would not say there are any "recommendations" yet, as the use of virtual reality in security is still on the bleeding-edge of technology.
There are some companies with products in this area, including:
- Codelynx Aries
- EONreality
- Fortem, once for sale has a VR interface to their platform.
In speaking with some of these companies, and others in the VR space, there are still issues to overcome with the technology itself. Cost, and operator fatigue from wearing the glasses for long periods of time are two of the main issues cited.
I think that VR technology itself needs to see much wider adoption and progression in general before we start to see practical applications in security. After that happens, we may get to the point of having recommendations for training and use.
Are you referring to something like a "flight simulator" for first responders?
Hi, we (Fortem) did a dozen attempts at opening up this niche market, but with limited success.
It's hard to offer good advice based on so little information. If "Undisclosed #1" wants to, he can reach out to me to brainstorm about it.
That conference most closely focuses on this niche: http://www.iitsec.org/
Most of the VR/training projects I'm aware of exceed the budgets of public safety organizations, and instead are awarded by defense organizations, to large defense contractors, with inflated costs, based on branding and lobbying. Small companies rarely stand a chance except as sub-contractors. The primes end up making all the profit.
Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking about a product for the private sector that could be used for scenario based training for their gov't clients - any mission critical infrastructure. I understand the tech isn't there yet but their is a huge need for better training for new officer... mostly come out of the military and then go to work at these facilities but the training needs to be to that specific location they are assigned.
