'Virtual' ASIS 2017 - Pay For Live Streaming Sessions?

ASIS is launching an option called 'Global Access Live' where 10 sessions are live streamed including the Tuesday and Wednesday keynotes (but not the Monday George W. Bush one).

ASIS says CPE credits can be earned for this.

Pricing is effectively ~$40 per session:

What do you think? Good or bad idea? Interested?

ASIS also added that there will be one room at the convention center setup for the livestreaming (with video + synced PowerPoints). There will be a moderator in the room who will help facilitate the online conversations and help answer questions.

I vote 'good idea'.  The 'streaming' pricing is small in comparison for the price of travel.

Good idea for CPP's and such to make credits without travel.  Not so good for attendance and exhibitors.

It's a professional organization that delivers training for certifications and oh by the way runs a trade show on the side.  The Exhibitors are not the customer - the members of the professional organization are the customers.  Therefore, whatever they can do to facilitate delivering training (especially cheaper and without the guilt of considering to go to the cheerleader thing) is probably a good thing.

The Exhibitors are not the customer - the members of the professional organization are the customers.

By percentage of total revenue, that's incorrect but I get what you are saying about what should be the goal!

How the ASIS HQ staff spends their time and what they should be doing are not necessarily the same thing.  Some of us wish they'd get out of the magazine and trade show business and get back to the professional organization thing.

Some of us wish they'd get out of the magazine and trade show business and get back to the professional organization thing.

But the trade show business funds the professional organization. While I actually think ASIS would be a cleaner, more focused organization without the trade show, the money is significant.

From their 2015 tax returns, total revenue is ~$29 million, ~$6 million from membership fees, ~$3 million for training and certification, most everything else from the show and publishing.

Related, this is why IPVM has been firm about never doing advertising / marketing / promotions (like ASIS does). The money is so big that it warps an organization's priorities and decisions.
