Utter Failure Of Security At JFK Airport After False Report Of Active Shooter Sunday Night

There was a mass panic at JFK airport Sunday night after some people reported hearing gunshots. An eyewitness describes the stampede, lack of communication, lack of coordination between and command over security, cowardice by security officers, lack of guidance during the evacuation, lack of public address during evacuation process, and lack of processing, communication, or guidance for evacuated persons.

Apparently, no one has any idea or has given very much thought for how to evacuate one of the busiest airports in the United States in case of emergency. Also, I don't know if the TSA shoots agents for cowardice or incompetence like the French Army in WWI, but I sure hope there's some procedure.

Wow. We are 100% truly on our own during a terrorist attack.

Has ISIS claimed responsibility for what caused this mess... Usain Bolt’s superhuman 100-meter dash?

As a very frequent traveler, I am shocked that the TSA ninjas did not have the situation handled.

Shocked, I say...

Update: it happened again, this time at LAX. Same kind of disorganized mess that can only be properly described using the kind of language John severely frowns upon.

Wonder if this is connected? Some kind of pen testing?

In the last week, how many LAX security managers had assured their bosses that such a thing could never happen at LAX because of XYZ.

Ouch.

My wife and I regularly receive training for situations like this and avoid gun free zones as we almost always carry a firearm. Often security personnel are morons if they're not authorized to carry a weapon they're usually incompetent. Just last week I watched as two guards sat at their station and watched doggie videos all day.

You watched guards watch doggie videos all day?

We were doing a fire alarm inspection, and they were in the main hall with a PC at their desk. Rather than putting surveillance cameras up, they were watching YouTube. I could hear the barking from the videos and their laughter through most of the building.

Terradorable. The first 2 weeks of being a first time parent OR security guards watching Youtube instead of security cameras.

When designated areas are "gun-free", we as a population are more reliant on the security forces at those facilities. Those forces must get their stuff together... training, equipment, coordination, communication.

Sure we can all attempt to avoid the "gun-free" areas, but sometimes we have to go to the post office or the airport. If governments and businesses make an area "gun-free," they need to better ensure our safety from active shooters.
