Fellow Pros,

Have you come across a good UPS solution that satisfies the requirement of minimum of 1 hour of backup power supply for the video surveillance solution in the event of a power outage?

Do you know of any simple calculator tools that will allow you to calculate the load and then recommend a power supply?

Thanks,

We have this report on UPS Backup Power which may help you.  Each manufacturer has their own calculator you can use. Here is the one from APC, and another from Tripplite, two popular manufacturers.

How big is the system?

1 hour is going to be costly to furnish/maintain for even a system of 8 cameras. The UPS would be for the blip between loss of mains power and when the generator kicks in.  A backup generator and transfer switch may very well prove to be less expensive for a larger system.

I strongly disagree. Take this example:

Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/8P 8CH PoE NVR

Approx 150W max including HDDs and PoE for 8CH

Cyberpower OR1500LCDRM1U 1500VA UPS $300 USD Street Pricing

According to the chart above, you should expect around an hour of runtime for the aforementioned 8CH system.
