Upgrading Hikvision 4200 To Milestone VMS - Any Issues To Look For?

I have estimated for a 22 channel Hik camera software upgrade to Milestone, I plan to use 2 Dahua,16 channel POE encoders, re use the server running iVMS4200 and use Milestone Express for channel licences.

Let me know if I'm walking into a horror show...

Given that each encoder only requires a single device license, your total Milestone software cost is only $157 for up to 32 cameras (Base + 2 devices). I just don't see this as having horror-show potential.

A couple of thoughts:

Milestone makes it ridiculously inexpensive to migrate analog systems over to Milestone.

Can Milestone takeover Vicon encoders.....?

That is a good question as I do not see them on the list.

Several of the encoders are listed as ONVIF-certified which Milestone can certainly accept.

Let's see if Josh Hendrix of Milestone can chime in. Josh?

No, that description is reserved for upgrading iVMS 4200 to Genetec ;)

You should be using the Hikvision NVRs, not the iVMS4200 software for recording. I currently have a Milestone system using Hikvision encoders & Hikvision IP cameras. Both us (dealer) and the customer hate the Milestone - too prone to issues and video is mission-critical for this end-user (jail).

We are in the process of replacing the Milestone servers with Hikvision NVRs and will be using Hikvision Decoders to display live video on several video walls. The iVMS software should only be used as an interface to the Hikvision hardware - not as an integral piece of the system.

I have other installations using Hikvision NVRs, Encoders, & Decoders withe iVMS software in two gaming (casino) environments with almost no problems whatsoever.

BTW, I am factory trained &  certified in both Milestone & Hikvision.
