SecurityInformed (the US edition of SourceSecurity) has published an article: What's Next For Hikvision And Dahua Post U.S. Congressional Ban?, key quote:

The result of these developments is a kind of snowball effect, simultaneously drawing attention to the issues and adding new elements to an overall narrative. Taken together, these developments suggest the U.S. ban has set off a level of concern about Chinese companies that will have an industry-transforming impact in the months to come.

I think this is correct and most people who read IPVM, regardless of side, have come to this conclusion.

It is noteworthy though that an advertiser-funded publication (e.g., SourceSecurity has written a number of Hikvision marketing whitepapers) would acknowledge this publicly.

Maybe Hikvision called them and canceled advertising for the next year...no money...no favors. That's how it works, isn't it?

New SecurityInformed piece pro Dahua/Hikvision: Questioning The Wisdom Of The U.S. Ban On Hikvision & Dahua, with questions such as:

I can’t quite picture how these specific companies got on Congress’s radar. The government ban is based on concerns about the potential misuse of cameras, not actual misuseWhat level of lobbying or backroom dealing was involved in getting the ban introduced (by a Missouri congresswoman) into the House version of the bill?

This is fairly easy and obvious to answer. Both companies have been subject to repeated mainstream / international news coverage. In particular, the Missouri Congressswoman Hartzler represents the district where the Army Base featured in the WSJ original report is located, which later resulted in the Base removing Hikvision cameras, in another WSJ report.

It is actually funny at this point that these publications leave out the government ownership, control or billion dollar government backed contracts.
