Tyco is one of the biggest security manufacturers (through Tyco Security Products) and integrators (through Tyco Integrated Security).

Reports are saying that Johnson Controls is in 'advanced talks' to acquire / merge with Tyco. JCI is the larger overall company and has some security presence already but would be tremendously bolstered by acquiring Tyco.

If this deal goes through, what do you think the impact will be?

UPDATE: Deal is done - see announcement.

Our post and analysis on the deal here.

How so?

CEO is still expected to run new company.

That JCI's CEO is connected to a guy running a Ponzi Scheme is crazy but how does this relate to the Tyco deal? I am not saying it or is not, but I am trying to see a more specific connection.

From the Milwaukee newspaper:

"Alex Molinaroli's story doesn't add up — at least the public version of his story, and that remains a problem for the CEO at Johnson Controls.

He lost $2.5 million to a con man and then paid for the swindler's legal defense?

He allowed the con man to live rent-free in a mansion in a tony Detroit suburb?

He wired money to people on the swindler's behalf?"

Strange.

If you're a TYCO shareholder there would be concern that he's on the way out before the deal

gets done...tying up the company. Employees start leaving and then the deal falls apart.

I suppose that the CEO's life may fall apart as well, what with the million dollar fine for his consultual sex and his wife shooting up their house.

Then again, he been CEO for only a couple years and it doesn't look like the business is in serious trouble without him. Also, the board seems strong. Is he the rainmaker for the company?

"with the million dollar fine for his consultual sex and his wife shooting up their house."

Or as he likes to refer to it - a 5% slap on the hand.

"Molinaroli received total compensation of $19.5 million in fiscal 2014"

A million here, 2.5 million there, bitter wife/kids divorce settlement looming, legal fees up the wazoo, and new girlfriend.

Maybe he should have exercised a little more Control with his Johnson.
