Need Solution To Staff Turning Down Workstation Volume, Eliminating Alarm Sounds

I have an issue with staff turning down the volume on their workstations thus eliminating the alert  sounds generated by alarms such as propped doors, troubles, etc. Obviously we have policies intended to prevent this but it still happens. I have asked the various manufactures for solutions without success (other than to put a sounder at the desk controlled by an output relay). What I am looking for I guess is a "breakthrough alarm feature that can be evoked on a point-by-point basis  but I am open to suggestions.

Any ideas out there?

Do they have external speakers they turn down or is it something they do within Windows volume control?  If it's a set of external speakers purchase an amp and have the audio sent to overhead speakers with no way for them to control the volume.  If it is within windows a search for disabling the volume control options in Google may yield some results.

Actually both. Although these are not technical people, they know their way around their workstations. I cannot disable the general volume control for the workstation as there are times when the do need to turn down the sound (music, dancing cats, porn, etc).

Where are these alarms coming from?  We use IDEC buzzers to a PLC for all of our alarms because of the exact same issue you are having.

You could probably program a relay on an access control system to power one of them too.  They are loud, available in all sorts of tones, and cant be turned down/off unless the conditions to silence/ack/clear the alarm are met.

Thanks. There are anywhere between 10 to 100  alarm points per site eliminating from door alarms (particularly doors held open), emergency points, and even motion detectors. There are also a couple of cameras that are equipped trip wire analytics.  There are about 50 workstations where this would need  to be done, so as inferred by my post, I am trying to avoid a separate sounder  (although I do  like the switch you suggested).

To the integrators out there, how much would you charge to add this feature to 50 workstations? This would include running 50' of cable between the controller and workstation, installing the IDEC buzzer switch in a wall/desk mounted box containing a latching relay and linking 30 output points though software to trigger the output relay.  There also needs to be a way to silence or bypass the sounder  in the event it does not restore with the light remaining on until reset.
