Top Commenters List Fixed

Just an fyi - our top 20 commenters list method has been corrected. Previously, it only counted the top 20 people by number of posts and then ranked only those people by votes received. That was a mistake. Now, it factors in votes for all commenters, so even if you do not comment much but your commenters are upvoted strongly, you will get recognized.

New entrants include super consultant Michael Silva, blasting into the top 10, as well as integrator Luis Carmona, and gulp, Matt "Fish Puns" Bischoff.

Current list copied below:

Also, Q1 is almost done and we are going to have another record payout. Looks to be in the $4,000 range for members.

Keep voting!

Dumb question, that number to the right of the name is

  1. last 3 months comments or
  2. last 3 months votes?

Yes, but in your defense, 'Top Comment Votes' is somewhat unclear. It really should be 'Top Comment Votes Received' but that would take too much space.

You considering revealing yourself and taking the #1 spot?

Just in time to be overtaken by Millabaugh?

Just in time to be overtaken by Millabaugh?

Even if they combined forces, they wouldn't be close to you. You had 1,100+ upvotes in Q4 and I think more now.

Ok, but I'm still concerned about recent allegations of voter fraud.

Our new Contractor-in-Chief claims 3 to 5 thousand Undisclosed Integrators may have voted illegally here in California alone ;)

Honestly, I'm rarely on here. I feel like I read way more than comment.

Enhancement request to feed my ego: For those of us who are occupationally required to stay undisclosed, would it be possible to see where we rank?  Maybe something in our profile?

That's an interesting point.

I filed an issue on this, with the thinking that we would modify the member's profile display, e.g.

Instead of just saying how many votes one has it would list where one ranks for commenting, e.g.:

Congrats, you are the 17th ranked commenter (undisclosed)

Anyone who has thoughts on that, please share.

Also, thinking of letting the top 20 ranked commenters show their URL, which would give them a lot more exposure / value / incentive, since the that top 20 partial is viewed ~100,000 times a month.

Sigh now I am going to have to stop commenting/ posting or work on my profile...

I agree with this.

I don't pretend I'm anywhere near the top but I'm interested nonetheless. :)

How'd I end up here... and rising? It totally was the Murphy's Laws topic, wasn't it?

Congratulations!

Caution though, you're knocking at the door of the esteemed top ten.  They're whole different class of poster; amazingly agreeable, incisively informative and fantastically funny, these guys have all the tools in the shed and aren't afraid to use them.

One minute they'll disarm you with a bit of self-deprecating humor; the next you they'll hurl a vicious boolean syllogism that will destroy your equanimity faster than you can say ignoratio elenchi.  Karas is particularly dangerous in this regard.

Only engage Dillabaugh on matters of opinion, and Calhoun only on matters of fact.

Take note of the Undisclosed masses, especially Undisclosed Manufacturers. Their motives are often murky, but deadly.

When you think of something good to say, stop and think of something better.  Cut out half the words in every post, recursively.

If you like or are pushing a product, make sure and be overly critical of insignificant specs (power cord length, excess packaging etc), before launching into your pitch.

Keep your wits about you, choose your battles wisely; when the facts are against you argue from experience, if you have none, appeal to common sense, if that fails, exit the discussion after you cite the most favorable research paper you can find, preferably in another language, ideally Sanskrit.

If you state a careless inaccuracy, profusely apologize to bolster your credibility.  If you are completely wrong though, double down and back yourself up as Undisclosed.

If you say something particularly witty to someone, address them by name, that way you can search the site later for a personalized list to revisit.

Woundedly call out all ad hominems at once, but learn how to disguise your own by nested insinuation and misdirection. Make no friends and take no prisoners.  Burn strawmen.

And remember, it's not over 'till the fat guy posts.

Which more often than not, is me. :)
