Trying to understand if Chrome support is essential for a VMS provider if the client devices are Android phones or tablets, or would a Firefox browser work just as well? Do top VMS providers like Milestone, Genetech etc. support Chrome on Android? Thanks.

IPConfigure Orchid VMS supports all browsers. Plugin (H.264) support on Firefox and IE only. All mobile devices are supported, Orchid efficiently transcodes H.264 in real-time to MJPEG.

Using a browser for mobile viewing sounds horrendous. Why wouldn't you just pick a VMS with an app or if you're a VMS guy, build an app.

Firefox will drop NPAPI support at the end of the year, so you'll have the same support issues with Chrome.

Browser support for WebRTC will replace the need for NPAPI in the near future. http://iswebrtcreadyyet.com/

New web interface from Axis is already there.

It's a beta and uses websockets and only supports one video stream open on a PC at a time. It's also their place holder for WebRTC.

It's beta.

It's the interface shipping with the Companion Dome.

...only supports one video stream open on a PC at a time.

One stream per PC or one stream per client?

Is this an Axis specific limitation or a general websockets one?

It's a websocket limitation.

Genetec's Mobile Client works well on Chrome on Android, Safari on Mac/iPad. I dont generally use Firefox on mobile devices, but Genetec runs fine on the desktop version of FF.
