First US article I have seen profiling Hytera is in the Washington Post. Recall 5 manufacturers were named in the NDAA, the 2 big video surveillance manufacturers - Dahua / Hikvision and the 2 big telecommunications manufacturers - Huawei / ZTE, the 5th was Hytera, which is by far the least known.

Some details / claims from the Post's profile:

  • "just $30 million to $40 million in U.S. sales", "Hytera’s 2017 acquisition of two U.S. military suppliers, Sepura Group of the United Kingdom and Norsat, a Canadian satellite communications manufacturer."
  • "Hytera Communications in Shenzhen depends upon its home market for roughly 40 percent of an estimated $1 billion in annual revenue."
  • Interestingly the same House HASC spokesperson who told us Hisilicon was covered by the ban commented to the Post on Hytera, noting "The move was “the result of classified information the committee reviewed in the course of our regular oversight activities."
  • "Hytera, which has about 70 employees in California, Florida and Illinois, maintains its innocence and has sued Motorola alleging unlawful anti-competitive behavior."
