News to me was that they often have property related occupations, landscaping, contractor, service personnel, which they use to scope out new jobs.

On the other hand you would think with their skills they could easily land a job at one of the less reputable door-to-door selling alarm companies, most likely in "pre-pre-sales" just to "warm-up" the neighborhood before the "cold-calling closers" arrive... ;)
