Spain - 6 Month Video Retention Requirements?

I have a client that has international sites.  One of those sites that we will soon be assigned is in Spain.  The client is reporting that Spain has a 6 month video retention time frame requirement.  Can any Spaniard IPVM users confirm or deny this requirement?

From a range of Google searches, Spain passed a new law that adopts a framework of regulations in line with GDPR. It has not been enacted yet, but from what I could find on English language sites, there are no retention requirements, which generally would be in contrast to GDPR privacy requirements anyway.

Is the customer/client in a specific industry (banking, manufacturing, corrections, etc) that may have additional regulations that might require a long retention time?

I would suggest asking the customer.  We have a few sites with very specific retention times that are there because they were written into the FSP that was provided to and approved by DHS, or it is an EPA requirement.  Obviously that has nothing to do with Spain but it is possible that there is some other reason that they stated this.  Additional, as is the case with our EPA stuff it may only be required for one or two cameras.

I would suggest asking the customer.

The client is standardized at 30 days across the board.  As I understand it a previous site in Span was compelled to meet this requirement.  By whom I do not know.  They were told it was a government requirement... perhaps even regional.  I am receiving this information from the client which is admittedly a case of hearsay.  It is entirely possible that a contractor pulled the wool over their eyes and picked their wallet.

Although I am not a Spaniard IPVM user, I have spent a considerable amount of time doing business there.  I can confirm there are no requirements for 6 month's retention unless you are perhaps in a specific vertical which mandates that (none come to mind).  In my prior experience, we sold into banks, ports, city surveillance, and a few others that never needed more than 1 month.  In fact, with GDPR (as Sean indicates) the pressure has been mounted to get exactly 1 month retention - no more, no less.

I reached out to a surveillance manufacturer with an office in Barcelona to see if they have any feedback or information.

No- it is illegal to record and retain more than 30 days.
