Should Using Micro SD Cards For Surveillance Cameras As A Storage Back Up Be Difficult To Configure?

• Am I too dumb to figure it out?
• Is this easy or hard?
• Did I need to buy a particular brand? (Nothing has indicated that)
• There just seems to be NO direct, simplistic path to get them behaving as backup STORAGE..? Isn't that what they are?
• My Hikvision won't format one, doesnt doesn't recognize one. My UNV PTZ hasn't cooperated.

Anyway, if there's something trivial I'm overlooking...

or if asking means I'm incompetent to the task -- say so. I can deal.
