Interesting LinkedIn post from Lyft's CISO:

Personally, I find these barriers to be quite annoying, made more so by the fact that typically the information is often superficial and short. In particular, the requirement for phone number and mailing address raises concerns. Email only is not a big deal.

On the other hand, surely some companies find this a profitable way to generate and warm leads.

What do you think? Worth annoying and turning away some prospects?

A lot of the SDM articles are like this... and they tend to be sponsored white papers for certain manufacturers. One of our tech’s was in featured in a Dahua 4K over Coax article, and I did not know until another integrator called us asking questions about the article.

I spent hours google searching and scrolling through articles, many of which were behind what I call a “contact wall” (like a pay wall but requiring giving up contact info) until I finally found it.

I can understand asking for contact info via a well designed pop up, but making it mandatory is very off putting. If I hadn’t felt like a fool and been on a mission to find the article I would never have given them any details.
