Bayer filters, which are the basis of every (I believe) imager in use by our industry today, block between 50% and 70% of available light.
Now, researchers from the University of Utah have come up with a new type of color filter array. Bayer filters use the RGB (red green and blue) color scheme. This new type of filter uses 25 different colors, allowing three times more light through, virtually eliminating digital noise, and allowing for more accurate color reproduction.
Extreme low light surveillance with no noise or ghosting! Could be pretty big.
