Do You Install Rough-In Boxes Outside?

When prewiring for cameras, pre-siding, what do you put on the outside of the house to hold the wiring? The customer I'm doing now is not sure he will be purchasing the system, so I need something to cover the hole and wiring that will look decent after the house is finished.

I've rarely seen residential prewire done for cameras.  But with that said, congrats on getting someone to think/ plan beforehard.

I'd run everything to intended locations, into a backbox or jbox.  From there, you can just cover the box with a blank that is eventually painted to match the structure/siding.

If/ when time comes to hang the camera, you already have the cable terminated and easy to find in the box just by popping the blank off.

You can get these siding mounting kits that you then cover with a blank. Looks nice, even if the homeowner decides not to go for it afterward.

The important thing is to coordinate with the siding guy so he doesn't cut or cover your wires.

Do this all the time on commercial new construction. Run the category cable into a siding kit/box like Ari shows and your good to go. If you get the siding kit roughed in before the siding crew shows up they will just trim around it (usually....:-).
