Replacing An Old Camera On An Old Ocularis System

Been tasked to help out a customer with an old Ocularis system.  I'm an old certified Milestoner, but this one has me stumped.  I swapped the camera out with a new one and attempted to do the 'replace' but it just says to restart the recording server.  I deleted the old camera and added the new one, but it now has the new camera on a 30 day courtesy license and the clock is ticking.

There are available licenses as we have deleted some non essential cameras from the system, but there's no way to make the new camera recognized as a license-able camera.

Any thoughts?

Mac address licensing.

Yeah, kinda figured that, but not any help.

This should be an easy fix - call OnSSI support.

Because you deleted the original camera from the system before you added the new camera (since 'replace' didn't work, as you mentioned) UD #2 is correct - the MAC address licensing scheme is holding you hostage.

You just need to update your customers license with OnSSI.  If there are available camera licenses as you stated, then one of those just needs to be tied to the MAC address of the new camera.

This is exactly the problem with MAC address authentication on video systems for camera licensing. This drove me crazy when they first started doing this. I had systems out there that had no internet access and a camera always seemed to go bad when tech support wasn't available.

Will they do a transfer if you are not current on maintenance support $$?

This was a Milestone thing that carried over to the Ocularis platform, which was the Milestone engine. Unfortunately I can't remember if you had to be current on the support. I would guess you could transfer a camera but maybe not add a camera. I know Milestone doesn't do it this way anymore fortunately.

Wouldn't the management of already paid for licenses fall under the domain of Operations - and not Support?

I find it difficult to believe that OnSSI could take the position of requiring a maintenance agreement be in place to allow a customer to use a license that they've already paid for.

As I said it has been a while since dealing with that. The best bet is to call their tech support and find out. The worst they will say is no. The only issue may be if you are certified or not. I do know they had a limit to how many times you could transfer a license. Now whether they would enforce that is another question.

Hi Undisclosed Integrator #1,

I suggest you contact our support team at support@onssi.com. They will do their best to help you out.

No maintenance agreement or certification is required to contact support or to use/update/change licenses.

Have a nice day.

Thanks Ari, I'll have my customer reach out to support.  Sad thing is we deleted the 2-3 old cameras we wanted to replace, so we may not have those old macs.  May need to see if Occu. can send us their current list to find the ones we deleted.

I'm not sure how it works in the legacy OnSSI platform, but in the Professional VMS/E-code versions of Milestone you could bring the deleted cameras back by rolling back to a previous restore point. Restore points are made automatically when commiting a configuration change.

If the SSA is valid, update your licenses on the admin application. If you are the dealer of record this can be done near instant on their website. This will give you the current count of licenses. Use the Admin client, usually found on the master core but could be installed anywhere on the network.

Is the system 5.0 or greater? Are there any older DMs or recorders at a lower revision? 3.5 Recorders you will need to email them into Onssi.

A 5.0+ Master Core is backward compatible with 3.5, 4.0 devices. Some people just upgrade the MC and Clients and leave the recorders on the older Milestone software.

Call tech support, should be and easy fix! Good Luck!
